JACKSON, Tenn. — The Goodwill store and Donation Express Center in South Jackson moved to its new location on South Highland Avenue. The company says the new space means more jobs. “It’s nice,” Jessica Ballard, an employee, said. “We got more room, more people coming in to shop.” Goodwill gave Ballard a job last October. “I love Goodwill,” Ballard said. “I love what I do. This has been my best job.” The new store has more space. “The last store that we had was about 13,000 square feet for retail space and this one‘s nearly 21,000,” said Jamie Berry, PR and Communications Manager. Goodwill says they also created approximately 20 new jobs. “When you donate items to Goodwill and you shop in our store, you really do change lives,” Berry said. The new store also comes with a brand new career solutions center. “What we can do it help you make those connections in the community that you need to go back to work,” Casey Coatney said, a career counselor. Coatney says in 2013 they helped place more than 200 people in jobs in the Jackson community. They train applicants. “Basic computer skills, resume building, online job search,” she said. “We do customer service training, help you build your resume.” Ballard seemed excited about the new store and enjoys working. “If you need a job, got a background, or just been unemployed for a long time, they’ll get you a job,” she said. The new Goodwill is open Monday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. and on Sundays from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.
