Educator of the Week: Warren

DENMARK, Tenn. — Meet Susan Warren, this week’s Tennessee Lottery’s Educator of the Week. Warren is a 6th grade teacher at West Middle School in Denmark. “The crazy thing I like to tell them every year is you know my responsibility is an awesome responsibility is to make you smarter this year and not the opposite. So just knowing that responsibility makes me enjoy my job a lot more,” Warren said. Warren has taught for more than 10 years and is going on her fifth year at West. Warren talks about her passion for teaching and how it started early in her life. “I knew early on that I wanted to be a teacher. I had a student teaching experience with a lady that had a lot of spunk and I can tell the kids adored her and loved her and worked hard for her,”Warren said. Warren feels she has a natural drive to teach which gets her over the ups and downs the job takes on. During the school day Warren tutors students. After school she acts as the Girls Softball Coach. “I played college sports in school and I have a passion for that too, but it’s kind of funny that I always tell my players and administrators that I’m a teacher first and I think that carries over onto the softball field,” Warren said. Warren hopes her ability to interact and care for her students will allow them to put their best foot forward in their futures to come.
