JACKSON, Tenn. — Union University pulled staff and students aside Monday to talk about the death of one of their students. The victim‘s fiance now faces a murder charge. Union students returned to class Monday for the first time since Jackson police arrested fellow student, Charles Pittman, 21, on a murder charge. “There are a lot of questions,” Amiee Brassart said, a senior. Brassart knew the victim Olivia Greenlee, 21. They sang in choir together. “She was bubbly,” Brassart said. “She had a laugh that you could pick out.” The school delayed classes Monday in order to meet with staff and students. “I think it was important for everyone to have the best information possible to try to process what’s going on,” Dr. David Dockery, President of Union University, said. Dockery confirmed they have extra counselors available for students. “We are a campus in mourning, sad, grieving, and people grieve differently,” Dr. Dockery said. Dockery said Greenlee‘s death and Pittman‘s arrest shocked the school. “It’s very difficult for us,” Dockery said. “We’re a very close knit community.” Students and staff lean on each other and their faith. “You can definitely sense the sorrow and the grief, but at the same time you can sense the hope,” said Brassart. Pittman faces first degree murder and tampering with evidence charges. He is scheduled to appear in court Tuesday morning.
