Emergency Managers Urge Residents to Download Severe Weather App

JACKSON, Tenn. — As part of severe weather awareness week, local emergency officials are encouraging residents to prepare for the spring storm season. According to Marty Clements, Director of Jackson Madison County Emergency Management Agency, the new Alert FM app was designed with safety in mind. “People need to try to stay informed, and fortunately today most people are technology savvy,” Clements said. “So this just makes it a little bit quicker and easier. They can flip over real quick to their smartphone.” Clements says you need to have access to notification technology, including weather radios and other devices before dangerous weather threatens. “They can just…be one step closer to being quickly notified of what’s going on,” Clements said. Officials say with the Alert FM app all you have to do is put in your zip code and from there you’ll get daily and hourly details of what’s happening with the severe weather in your area. “And there’s a lot of features that you go through and look at, check weather conditions, weather text alerts, anything if there’s tornado warnings,” Clements said. The app is available for both Apple and Android devices. It can be downloaded from the Apple app store and the Google Play store. Clements encourages residents to prepare for spring storm season by having an emergency plan and disaster supply kit, practicing drills, and knowing your location in case a storm comes.
