JACKSON, Tenn.–The Union University student and youth minister accused of killing his fiancee made his first court appearance on Tuesday. A judge ordered Charles Pittman, 21, be held without bond. Authorities formally charged Pittman with first degree murder and tampering with evidence. “The statement that he gave us and the crime scene, they don’t add up,” Captain Tyreece Miller, with the Jackson Police Department, said. Pittman is accused of killed his fiancee, Olivia Greenlee, 21, last week. Miller confirmed she was shot once in the head. “There was nothing that we found that led us to believe she would commit suicide,” he said. Jackson police say Pittman called Union University security Wednesday morning and asked them to check the campus for Greenlee. Officers say security guards found her body. Police say the couple had dinner together the night Greenlee died. According to an affidavit, Pittman originally told police Greenlee dropped him off at his apartment that night. In a second statement, the affidavit states Pittman told officers Greenlee shot herself in the head while he was in the car. When officers asked to see the clothes Pittman wore that night, investigators say he gave them something else. “Once he deceived us, then he immediately became a person of interest,” said Miller. After investigators confronted Pittman, an affidavit says he turned over washed, bleached clothing, surveillance video revealed he wore at dinner. “Miss Greenlee can’t speak anymore, so we have to speak for her,” Miller said. Pittman is scheduled to return to court Feb. 27. Police say the gun used to kill Greenlee was stolen from Pittman‘s roommate. No word yet on a possible motive.
