Neighbors: Dog kills 4 Neighborhood pets

OBION COUNTY, Tenn. — Some people in Union City said they are afraid to walk out their own front door out of fear they will be attacked by a neighbor’s dog. Cathie Lemon said her dogs are like family. “When you’re that close to your pet, you know it’s just a part of you,” Lemon said. When her Shih Tzu was killed, allegedly by a neighborhood dog, she and her husband were heart broken. “It was devastating to lose her, we were so attached,” Lemon said. A report filed by the Union City Police Department said a pit bull owned by Michael Hopper attacked a cat that belonged to Eric Jobe’s mother. “I did everything I possibly could. I was hitting the dog, trying to shove stuff in its mouth and it would not unlock its jaws,” Jobe said. Hopper was charged with harboring a vicious animal and violation of the leash law in that deadly attack. Lemon said her dog is the fourth animal the pit bull has killed on this street. Neighbors said they are now afraid to let their children outside to play because they are afraid the dog will attack them while playing outside or walking their dogs. “It’s bad enough our pets are being killed over this one dog but if somebody loses a child over this? How devastating will that be?” Lemon said. Neighbors said the owner cannot seem to keep the dog restrained. He can even run through the gate he stays in. “I want the dog gone. He’s a proven threat. He has the taste of blood now and he’s a threat,” Jobe said. The owner of the dog said he is working to find the pit bull a new home.
