JACKSON, Tenn.- When it comes to saving money, the statistics are startling. Most Americans do not have a savings plan. About a third of Americans do not have enough emergency funds on hand to cover unexpected expenses like car repairs or a doctor’s visit. Tennesseans do many things to make ends meet while some do more to save any extra money. This week, a campaign kicks off in Tennessee to not only make ends meet, but to actually save hundreds each year. It is called “Tennessee Saves.” The “Tennessee Saves” program encourages people to put back $20 each week and by the time a year passes you will have saved more than $1,000. Chad Wilson at Foundation Bank in Jackson said saving money is not only good for long-term purchases. “It’s not just setting money aside for a future need, though it is that… But it’s setting some money aside today for a future need that could be significant,” Wilson said.” And that money could be significantly greater,” He said regardless of a person’s income, saving is a mentality. The “Tennessee Saves” campaign encourages families, students and individuals to think before buying.
