ATF Releases Details on Kilgore Explosion

TOONE, Tenn. — The Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms released more details of the explosion in Toone that killed a plant worker. The ATF National Response Team (NRT) deemed the incident as non-criminal in nature and has classified it as an accidental explosion. The explosion occurred in a mixing room and resulted in the death of one employee, Michael Chism. The incident caused considerable monetary damage, and resulted in the severe injury and eventual death of one individual. “ATF is committed to working alongside its state and local partners, bringing its expertise to determine the origin and cause of the explosion, and provide whatever resources necessary to thoroughly investigate and provide answers,” ATF Nashville Field Division Special Agent in Charge Jeffrey L. Fulton said. The explosion happened on 10:49 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 22. The victim, Michael Chism, died from the injuries he suffered in the explosion. Kilgore Flares Company LLC manufactures products for the Department of Defense.
