JACKSON, Tenn.- February is Earthquake Awareness Month in Tennessee. Jackson-Madison County Emergency Management officials met Wednesday morning and went through training procedures in case an earthquake along the New Madrid fault line happens. Local leaders said it is not a matter of if an earthquake will affect our area, but when. They said they want to make sure West Tennessee is as prepared as possible. “Something that everybody needs to look at is, how are you going to get home if an earthquake happens, how many bridges do you have to go over or under and you know how are we going to move things, how are people going to get to the doctor, how are people going to get to home from work, how are you going to get to your kids?” said Marty Clements, director of the Jackson-Madison County Emergency Management Agency. More than 200 years ago, a series of earthquakes caused the creation of Reelfoot Lake. It has been said tremors from the quake were felt more than 1,200 miles away in Quebec City, Canada.
