Revenue Up in Madison County

MADISON COUNTY, Tenn. — Revenue is up in Madison County, according to Finance Director Mike Nichols. “I don’t know if it’s folks paying their property taxes early or if that’s the case of more property,” Nichols said. Nichols said the county‘s income is up about 2 percent from this point last year. County leaders talked money with county commissioners on Thursday. “It’s important that they see the amount of the revenue, how much it is or how little it is,” Madison County Commissioner Ann Harrell said. Harrell also serves as chairwoman of the budget committee. “These are preliminary meetings,” Harrell said. “I don’t think I have the projected budget for how it’s gonna look at for year end.” Some believe information from county leaders will help commissioners. “Inform the committee so they can make a wiser decision in funding,” Madison County Commissioner Doug Stephenson said. “They can get an understanding of where the revenues come in and they can give us ideas from an outside perspective of what things we do need to change,” said Nichols. The county finance department says commissioners must approve the new budget by July 1.
