Man Taken into Custody After Hotel Parking Lot Shooting Released

NORTH JACKSON — Jackson police have released the Oakfield man who was taken into custody for questioning in the Sunday morning shooting that injured four men. Shortly after 2 a.m. Sunday, police were called to Rodeway Inn, located at 1963 U.S. 45 Bypass. Four men were transported either by ambulance or personal vehicle to Jackson-Madison County General Hospital with gunshot wounds. A 24-year-old Brownsville man was treated and released, and a 23-year-old Jackson man remains in stable condition at the Jackson hospital. A 21-year-old Brownsville man and 24-year-old Jackson man were both transferred from Jackson to the Regional Medical Center at Memphis where they remain in stable condition. The preliminary investigation revealed that a Brownsville woman was having a birthday party at the hotel. As people were leaving, a fight started on the parking lot and shots were fired by at least two people. A witness on scene initially identified a 25-year-old Oakfield man as being involved, and he was taken into custody for questioning. Investigators released the man around 8 p.m. Monday due to lack of evidence to support a criminal charge at this time. The investigation is ongoing.
