Jackson Road Conditions Improving

JACKSON, Tenn- Ice covered roads greeted drivers throughout Jackson Tuesday morning. Anything that melted Monday refroze overnight despite around the clock efforts to get the city back to a safe state. “Most of the roads, the salt is working on. The temperature was 10 degrees last night so salt doesn’t work.” said Percy Jones, Deputy Superintendent of Streets. Salting continued as temperatures warmed through the day, turning hard ice into mush and slush. This made it a lot easier for plows to to clear the roads and salt to melt the ice. “We are going to plow until everything needs to be done and get it out the way. Now, there are gonna be some spots even though you plow it low, so we can’t get some slippery spots. Hopefully temperatures will take care of it soon.” said Jones. With temperatures expected to drop only into the upper 20s, street crews will continue to salt through the night, Tuesday. Their main concerns now are the hills, intersections, and side streets across the area. “We got enough salt if we got another storm to handle that too. We stocked up and we prepared this time,” said Jones. The street department said it will keep crews out through the early morning hours to focus on any trouble spots that may pop up. The best advice though is to take it slow or just stay off the roads. Road conditions will continue to improve throughout the week as temperatures warm up to around average by Friday.
