Lane Students Stranded at Greyhound Bus Stop

DOWNTOWN JACKSON — Local college students feared they could be forced to sleep on the streets, Friday night, after they said they’d been waiting day for a bus that had room to take them home for spring break. “I still can’t get home. That’s all I want is to get home,” Ronald Bruster, a Lane College student, said. Lane College students sat at the Greyhound bus stop in Jackson waiting to go home for spring break. They said the bus coming from Memphis had no room for them. Ronald Bruster has been waiting since Wednesday. “The bus pulls up, it’ll be packed from leaving Memphis. Then a couple people get off cause Jackson’s not big, so then they put 2, 3 people on the bus at a time,” Bruster said. Friday night, Lane College closed campus for spring break, leaving these students worried about what they will do if they do not catch the next bus. Many of them were headed to states like Michigan and Illinois. “I really don’t have a plan. My first thought was getting on the bus but I thought that was my main idea. I ain’t had no back up plan I just thought I was gonna get on the bus,” Dylan Norton, another student, said. As a halfway point, not as many buses come through Jackson and with no rides to Memphis, boarding there is not an option either. “It’s making my family mad because I haven’t been home in over 8 months and to finally get to go home now and I’m still sitting down here when I should be on the roll,” Andrew Tramble said. Many spent upwards of 6 hours a day hoping the next bus would be the one. “Now, I’m just waiting and hopefully they’ll be seats on this bus that comes,” Tramble said. We reached out to Greyhound for comment, and did not receive a response.
