EAST JACKSON — Jackson Police say a man fired shots outside a business Saturday night, hitting the store’s canopy. The clerk who was working at the time said she had a confrontation with the man moments before he fired shots. “It’s just scary because we live right around the corner, and it’s really odd for it to happen at this store,” Ashley Garcia said. Those who live near the Phillips 66 gas station at North Parkway and East Royal streets said they will be more cautious in the area after a man allegedly shot into the store’s canopy. The clerk said the man looked drunk when he walked in Saturday night. She said he stumbled as he walked behind the counter saying he wanted to buy cigarettes. She claims he became aggressive when she asked him to walk back around to the other side. She says she saw him walk to his car then fire 3 shots into the air. “It caught my attention because I’ve never witnessed anything like that before until now. It was pretty shocking to see that happen,” London Henderson, a regular customer, said. Store regulars heard the shots and say they feared the worst. “A lot of kids walk up and down from the neighborhoods and it’s a little dangerous for kids to travel back and forth,” Henderson said. “It was scary because I have children. We live right around the corner so you really don’t think that would happen right at the corner of your street,” Garcia said. Other customers say they’re changing when they’ll stop by. “I’m gonna be a lot more cautious. Try not to come get my cigarettes so late at night cause Jackson’s getting terrible. This part of the neighborhood is,” Scarlet King, who lives nearby, said. Luckily no one was injured by the gunfire. Police say they have a person of interest. If you have any information about this shooting, call Jackson police or Crimestoppers.
