JACKSON, Tenn. – Jackson police have identified the man killed Tuesday night as 64 year-old Aljernon Lloyd Jr. of Jackson. Police responded to a home in the 200 block of East Forest Avenue just before 7:30 Tuesday night where a car had struck the porch of a home. Homeowner Garric Yarbrough says, “I heard a loud crash and felt my house shake. That’s when I came outside to see a car crashed into my front porch.” According to a release from Jackson Police, officers then found Lloyd, who was the driver and sole occupant of the vehicle, with a gunshot wound. Lloyd was taken by ambulance to Jackson-Madison County General Hospital where he was pronounced dead. According to JPD investigators have determined that Lloyd was at a friend’s house on the 500 block of Greenwood Avenue and was shot while sitting in his parked car. Lloyd then traveled approximately a half-mile before crashing. “We believe he was on his way to the hospital,” says Police Capt. Tyreece Miller. Police say they have identified a person of interest they want to talk to in connection to the incident, but that person’s name is not being released at this time. WBBJ 7 Eyewitness News went to Llloyd’s neighborhood in east Jackson. No one answered the door but many neighbors said the 64-year-old had lived there for close to 40 years. They described him as family man who worked hard. “He tended to his own business and he was a good neighbor he was a loving man and a caring man he would have given you anything that he got if he had it,” said neighbor Katrina Billings. Police told WBBJ 7 Eyewitness News they do not believe Lloyd’s shooting was a random act of violence.
