JACKSON, Tenn. — Madison County commissioners are just days away from appointing an interim sheriff. Former Sheriff David Woolfork announced his retirement amid sexual harassment allegations. The four candidates up for the department‘s top spot are Sammy Britt, Tommy Cunningham, and John Lewoczko. We’ll start with Sammy Britt. Britt has nearly 50 years of experience in law enforcement. He started as a patrolman and worked his way up to captain at the Jackson Police Department. “I still have the passion. I still have the want to serve our community,” Britt said. “I think that I’ll be the best person to fill out those five months.” Britt hopes to meet with employees at the sheriff‘s office and then make changes. “I think there’s some areas over there that can be changed up to help the employees as well as provide the safety, security of our public out there,” Britt said. Britt plans to look at how taxpayer money is being spent. He also talked about crime and crime prevention. “That’s one of the biggest things that we need to hone in on is to try to keep the public safe and secure and work on those places and areas where there is crime,” Britt said. Commissioners will meet Monday morning at 8:30 a.m. Britt plans to be there.
