Police Charge Two Men in Ongoing Shooting Investigation

DOWNTOWN JACKSON — Jackson police have charged two men with simple assault in connection to a shooting on Tuesday afternoon. Brandon Chism, 23, of Jackson and Demarco Davis, 24, of Denmark were charged with simple assault. Chism faces additional charges for violation of probation and failure to appear in Jackson City Court. Chism and Davis were both arraigned at 8 a.m. Thursday in City Court on the simple assault charge. Chism’s bond was set at $5,000 and a hold was placed on him for the probation violation. Davis’ bond was set at $1,000. Chism remains in custody and Davis has been released on bond from the Madison County Jail Both men’s next scheduled court date is 1:30 p.m. on March 20 in City Court. Around 1:35 p.m. Tuesday, Jackson police were called about shots fired outside Park Ridge Apartments on Park Ridge Drive. Officers were told that four people were shot at while inside a minivan. The minivan was struck at least once. There were no injuries. Officers responded and stopped a car that was identified by witnesses on Whitehall Street at Dr. F. E. Wright Drive. Chism, Davis and a woman were taken into custody for questioning. The woman was later released without any charge. The investigation indicates that around 1 p.m., Lamar McKnuckles was at the Lane Express Mart, at 369 Lane Avenue. McKnuckles was then assaulted by Chism and Davis. After the fight, all parties ended up at Park Ridge Apartments. McKnuckles was in a car with three other people when they were allegedly shot at. The shooting remains under investigation.
