South Side Hawks Return Home State Champions

JACKSON, Tenn. –The South Side boy’s basketball team returned to West Tennessee to a crowd of dozens of fans to welcome them home. The team won the State title Saturday in double overtime against East Nashville. “Our fans are real supportive. They’ve been behind us all year, so, it feels good to have them all here to see us one more time together,” Senior Guard, Jaylen Barford expressed. Coach Damonn Fuller told the cheering crowd playing three games in a row was tough for the team, but he knew they could pull through. “We were just trying to keep them focused. We had a lot of game situations going on, but they said we are not giving up coach. I knew we were about to win a gold ball,” Fuller explained. The score from the game, 91-83, was even posted to the gym’s home scoreboard for the welcome home. “It feels so good. The opportunity to do what we did this weekend for this community, it feels real good,” Fuller said. This is the first State title for the program.
