Bolivar City Officials Talk Insurance Premiums

HARDEMAN COUNTY, Tenn. — Bolivar city officials are hoping to lower insurance premiums for local homeowners and businesses, in spite of plans to build a new fire department falling through. Officials from the fire, water and police department met Wednesday to discuss safety issues in the city and what they can do to make sure their ISO rating doesn’t raise. If it does, home and business owners could see an increase in how much they pay for insurance. According to Bolivar fire chief Lynn Price, the city is at a five in their rating but hoping to lower it. The ratings are based on how long it takes city officials to report to a business or residence in case of an emergency. “If we can stay at a five that’s great, but if we can go down to a 3 or 4 that would mean people’s insurance would go down,” Chief Lynn Price said, with the Bolivar Police Department. “And not just business but residential insurance as well.” City officials say they will be assessed on their ISO rating in 2015.
