LEXINGTON, Tenn.- Governor Bill Haslam made a visit to Lexington, Tuesday where he talked about what he calls “misconceptions” about Common Core education standards. The governor was at Lexington Middle School in Henderson County where he met with principals and educators who have successfully implemented the common core state standards. Common core is a set of clear, rigorous expectations for student outcomes in math and English that were developed by states. “The teachers and the professional educators who really understand what’s happening, their voices are not being heard in this and their voices are. Please don’t turn around, we’ve worked too hard and come too far to go back,” said Governor Haslam. Proponents said the program is to ensure every student graduates high school prepared for college or the workforce.
