LAUDERDALE COUNTY, Tenn. — A Dyersburg police office was arrested early Sunday morning on suspicion of driving drunk. The THP arrested Jimmy DeSpain, 57, after he reportedly could not maintain his lane and drifted across the fog line on U.S. 51 North in Lauderdale County. The trooper indicated in the arrest report when he came up to DeSpain he did smell an obvious odor of an alcoholic beverage. The officer then asked DeSpain how much he had to drink, to which he replied he had a few. The officer then asked DeSpain to perform various field sobriety tests, which he failed. DeSpain was then placed under arrest for DUI and taken to the Lauderdale County Jail. After submitting to a breathalyzer, DeSpain reportedly blew at .092. He was released Sunday afternoon after posting $500 bond. The Dyersburg Police Department has not said whether DeSpain remains on the job.
