Nursing Student Wins Competition Highlighting Benefits of Technical Education

WEST MADISON COUNTY — She’s already won at the regional level, and now a student at Jackson’s Tennessee College of Applied Technology is headed to state. Jennifer Puente is a nursing student and was nominated to represent the school in a competition that promotes a technical education over a traditional 4-year education. She’s already beat out other students to represent West Tennessee and won a laptop in the process. A car will go to the state winner, but Puente says it’s about a lot more than that. “It would personally mean that I have done something right,” Puente said. “I was able to not only go to school and succeed, but I was chosen as an outstanding student.” When Puente competes on April 14 in Chattanooga, she’ll go up against her sister who’s representing middle Tennessee.
