Redesign to Section of Highland Avenue Announced

DONWTOWN JACKSON — Mayor Jerry Gist announced funding has been put into place for the re-design of the North Highland Avenue at Deaderick Street intersection. The city of Jackson recently pledged $824,000 for the design of an improved roundabout intersection at North Highland Avenue and Deaderick Street. Tennessee Department of Transportation has agreed to pledge $206,000 in matching funds to help improve safety along this important federal and state route. “This is an important project for the continued redevelopment of our downtown area,” Mayor Gist said. “This improved intersection design should not only improve safety by slowing traffic speeds, but will also serve as a gateway entering our beloved downtown, and help to connect downtown across this major highway.” The city of Jackson is locally managing this project on behalf of the Tennessee Department of Transportation. The design of the project is expected to begin soon.
