JACKSON, Tenn. — A registered sex offender is back behind bars. Jackson police believe he has targeted several elderly people in recent days, going straight for their wallets. Billy Rauchle is just glad his wife never came face to face with Mario Hoyle. “He was not going to stop. It was going to be somebody else some other way, just one time after the other,” Rauchle said. Police believe Rauchle was one of four elderly people targeted by Hoyle in a matter of days, three of them men, attacked in a similar way. “I gave him my jumper cables, he was real nice, thanked me for the cables, told me he would put them back down. When I turned around to come back in the house, he jumped on my back,” Rauchle said. Captain Tyreece Miller with Jackson police said they are relieved to see Hoyle behind bars too. “He’s a menace to society and he’s been terrorizing Jackson, especially over the last week and a half, so we’re glad to have him off the streets,” Captain Miller said. Captain Miller said surveillance cameras captured Hoyle right before his latest attack, Tuesday, in the parking lot of Jackson-Madison County General Hospital. A 52-year-old man was punched, his 82 year old mother’s purse was stolen. The surveillance video helped lead to Hoyle’s arrest. He now faces three counts of robbery and one count of theft. Captain Miller said they are familiar with Hoyle. “He has a history that proves he’s violent. He’s a sex offender, he’s on probation for theft for stealing a motorized wheelchair from a 50 year old man,” he explained. Captain Miller said as of Friday night, the elderly and the streets of Jackson are safer. “I feel relieved because he was going to hurt somebody. He would’ve hurt me, no doubt about it, he would’ve hurt me if he hadn’t gotten my card when he did,” Rauchle said. A judge will set Hoyle’s bond Saturday morning. He will be formally arraigned in Jackson City Court on Monday.
