Gov. Haslam Makes Disaster Declaration

MADISON COUNTY, Tenn.- It seems the cost of winter is still affecting us here in West Tennessee. Governor Haslam has officially requested a disaster declaration for the ice storm in early March. The declaration included nine counties in Tennessee, six of which include Carroll, Fayette, Haywood, Madison, Shelby and Tipton in West Tennessee. The grant would allow for up to a 75 percent reimbursement of the costs to the affected counties and officials said that money would help tremendously. “It will take a while to get all the money reimbursed there is a lot of work to it but again it will help Madison County and the city of Jackson tremendously,” said Marty Clements, Madison County EMA director. The state and local governments spent more than $10 million in preperation and repsonse to the storms impact.
