Tennesseans Pay Some of the Lowest Taxes in the Nation

JACKSON, Tenn. — Some may not believe it, but according to the Tax Foundation, Tennesseans pay some of the lowest state and local taxes. 1. Wyoming 2. Alaska 3. South Dakota 4. Texas 5. Louisiana 6. Tennessee 7. New Hampshire 8. Nevada 9. South Carolina 10. Alabama Tennessee is actually sixth lowest — we pay an average of 7.6 percent of our income in state and local taxes. Wyoming ranks the lowest with 6.9 percent. The state with the highest tax burden is New York, where, on average, people pay 12.6 percent of their income in state and local taxes. The average across the country is 9.8 percent.
