JACKSON, Tenn.– Troopers arrested a Jackson firefighter on charges of having marijuana and guns inside his vehicle on Saturday night. Darricus Gunn, 41, posted a $5,000 bond on Monday and is now free. The Tennessee Highway Patrol arrested Gunn along Interstate 40. According to an affidavit, troopers found marijuana, drug paraphernalia, and two loaded handguns inside his vehicle. “They expect us as citizens to obey the law,” Eunice Johnson said, a Jackson resident. “They should obey it too.” According to an affidavit, Gunn admitted to the trooper he was delivering marijuana for his cousin. “I’m real surprised,” said Jackson Fire Chief Max Stewart. “I did not expect that from him.” Stewart confirms Gunn has been with the department 13 years and worked as a driver at station seven on Windy City Road. Stewart says Gunn never failed a drug test and has no history of disciplinary issues. “99 percent of our department we don’t have problems,” said Stewart. The Jackson Fire Department confirms they suspended Gunn without pay. “You’re not supposed to be doing that,” Johnson said. “You’re supposed to set a good example for the people out here that pay you to come and take out fires for them.” Gunn is scheduled to return to court May 20. According to paperwork from the court clerk‘s office, Gunn is also accused of violating vehicle registration and light laws.
