Police: Fight Leads to West Jackson Shooting

JACKSON, Tenn. – A man is shot in west Jackson, Monday evening, but it took more than an hour to find him. According to Jackson police, the shooting stemmed from a fight between two men at Airways Motel on Airways Blvd. Investigators believe one man beat up the other. A short time later, just after 7 p.m., officers said the two men got into another confrontation outside Brookfield Apartments on Hollywood Drive. Police said the man who was beat up at the Airways Motel shot the other man with a shotgun. A police officer on patrol saw the gunman and quickly took him into custody after a brief chase. The chase ended at nearby Guardian Courts Apartments. Officers said they recovered the shotgun. About 20 minutes later, around 7:35 p.m., police received a call from the clerk at Hollywood Liquors, also on Hollywood Drive. The clerk told officers a man who had been shot had come into the store. He was gone by the time officers arrived. Then just after 8 p.m., investigators got a call that the gunshot victim had returned to the place where it all started, the Airways Motel. An ambulance was called and took him to a nearby hospital. As of late Monday night, both men were hospitalized. Neither their names nor possible charges against either of them were released.
