African-American Leadership Conference Takes Place in Jackson

WEST MADISON COUNTY — Leaders in West Tennessee met in Jackson on Tuesday to voice their opinions on legislative laws and community advancement. UT Martin and the West Star Group hosted the 16th Annual African-American leadership conference, where several local professionals voiced concerns over issues like voting and stand your ground laws. Dr. Verna Ruffin with Jackson-Madison County Schools and NAACP president Gloria Sweet-Love were just some of the speakers. “They have a plethora of people from the community to really inform the community in a lot of ways of things that are going on, things that are relevant to them as leaders,” Sweet-Love said. Other guest speakers included Dr. Jerry Woods with Lane College and Judge Nathan Pride.
