JACKSON, Tenn.-The Jackson man accused of stealing more than $30,000 worth of items from elderly people appeared before a judge on Monday. Police said Stephen Bragg stole from residents at Jackson Meadow Retirement Home following a fire in March. Bragg is accused of stealing from up to eight different apartments. According to Bragg‘s arrest warrants, residents reported missing jewelry, cash and crystal. Bragg faces additional charges in Madison County. “He was in my house and he was, he didn’t steal anything,”Haley Gullett said, a Madison County resident. “He was just kind of hanging out.” Gullett got a phone call last week after she said someone saw a man about to go inside her home on Roy Davis Road. “Dude heard the sirens and took off running and my dad, my neighbor, and then a good family friend took off after him and tackled him in the middle of the road and held him until the cops got there,” Gullett said. Deputies arrested Bragg on aggravated burglary, weapon and assault charges. “He had brass knuckles,” Gullet said. “He had a condom. I mean he had just the wildest things.” The neighbors next door own the property. Melvin Warren said he hired Bragg several years ago to do some painting. “I guess he thought because he painted it he could walk in any time he wanted to,” said Warren. Gullett moved back in with her parents for now. “It’s terrifying, but I know that God has plans for this family of mine,” Gullett said. Gullet said she is praying for Bragg and his family. The judge set Bragg‘s bond at $75,000. He heads back to court May 1 involving the Jackson Meadow charges.
