DOWNTOWN JACKSON — The woman who police called a “serial shoplifter” was arrested by Jackson Police on Thursday afternoon. According to Investigator Kevin Mooney with JPD, Michelle Singleton, aka Michelle Henley was arrested after an officer discovered she was a passenger in a car that was pulled over on a seat belt violation on North Highland around 4 p.m. During the traffic stop, Singleton jumped out of the car and ran off, and police say she provided a false ID card when she was caught after a short foot chase. According to police, she had a xanax in her pocket and a small amount of marijuana. Singleton faces evading arrest, impersonation, possession of schedule IV drugs and simple possession of marijuana charges. She was also wanted on a warrant for the shoplifting charge, and also on another community corrections warrant. Police say she did not complete the community service she was sentenced. For the new charges, she was arraigned in Madison County General Sessions Court Friday morning and a $10,000 bond was set. She will have a bond hearing on Saturday morning for the shoplifting charge in Jackson City Court. Singleton/Henley was also wanted for Violation of Community Corrections and will be held until a hearing in Madison County Circuit Court, to be determined at a later date. Police say Singleton has an extensive past of drug and shoplifting charges. Singleton was originally identified by WBBJ viewers when surveillance video of her at the Sears on Old Hickory Mall was shown on Tuesday.
