Jackson Teacher Indicted on Sex Crimes Against Minor

JACKSON, Tenn. — A Northeast Middle School teacher was indicted by the Madison County grand jury, on a charge of soliciting a minor for sex. Franklin Mitchell, 28, of Jackson, is accused of sending naked pictures of an adult male and arranging to meet a teenage boy for sex via the Internet, according to the Jackson Police Department. The Jackson Police Department’s Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force became aware Mitchell was making contact with the boy last fall. Mitchell was taken into custody Aug. 28. Mitchell is still employed by the Jackson Madison County School District, according to district spokesperson Ginger Carver. He’s been on suspension without pay since shortly after his arrest. School administrators say Mitchell has been employed with JMCSS since August of 2010. The alleged victim was not one of Mitchell’s students, according to investigators. Mitchell will be arraigned next Monday in Madison County Circuit Court. He’s currently free on $10,000 bond.
