DOWNTOWN JACKSON — A man charged with the death of his estranged wife made his first appearance in court on Thursday. John Christie was officially charged with the first degree murder of his estranged wife, Brittney Christie. Police say what appeared to be a heroin overdose back in December is actually a murder. Investigators say John staged her death to look like a drug overdose to keep her from telling his girlfriend they were back together. Police say the two were in a room at a West Jackson motel on Dec. 6. when John injected Brittany with clonzaepam to sedate her, then gave her a deadly dose of heroin. John Christie is currently held at the Madison County Jail without bond. He returns to court on May 22.
