Police: 16-Year-Old Responsible For Sonic Armed Robbery
DOWNTOWN JACKSON — Police believe a runaway 16-year-old is responsible for an armed robbery at a Jackson Sonic. The incident happened at the Sonic on N. Highland on last Thursday around 7:30 p.m. According to police, a carhop was robbed at gunpoint when bringing out an order. Investigators determined the juvenile was responsible. The juvenile was arrested on Thursday around 3:30 p.m. at his girlfriend’s, mother’s house in Bolivar. This is not the first time this teen has been in trouble with the law. Police had previously been searching for him because he did not come to Juvenile Court for a shoplifting charge. That same day, the teen’s mother reported him to Jackson police as a runaway after she learned that he had left school at 7:30 a.m. on April 16 and had not since returned home. The District Attorney’s Office has said they will seek to have the teen tried as an adult on the aggravated robbery charge. Judge Little ordered him held at the detention center pending a transfer hearing. The teen is a prime suspect in Monday afternoon’s armed robbery of a Sonic carhop at 112 W. University Parkway. That investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Jackson Police Department’s Major Crimes Bureau at 731-425-8400 or Crime Stoppers at 731-424-8477 (TIPS).
