Shooting Sends Stray Bullets Into Homes and One to Hospital

EAST JACKSON — Jackson Police say rounds of gunfire sent stray bullets into homes and sent one man to the hospital after a shooting Thursday night. Residents on Everett Street, Cloverdale Street and Idlewild Street told officers they heard shot after shot. “About 10 to 12 shots as it seemed like they were going through my alley here,” George Skelton said. Police say they found a 19-year-old man with a gunshot wound on Idlewild Street, but believe the shooting started on Cloverdale. The victim told officers he was walking with two others, when they had an argument with three other men that escalated into gunfire. Skelton tells WBBJ 7 Eyewitness News the shots were so loud it sounded like the gunmen were firing outside his bedroom window. “Just one small wall between me and that ally,” Skelton said. Stray bullets were shot into another resident, Jackie Fuller’s, home. “The bullets ricocheted here through the wall, and it came right here and hit the fridge,” Fuller said as she showed our crew the damage. At least two homes and two cars were shot into during the shooting. Police say the victim remains in stable condition in a local hospital. No arrests have been made.
