Woman Holds “Zumbathon” to Raise Money for Grandson’s Surgery

WEST MADISON COUNTY — A grandmother is trying a new type of fundraiser to raise money for her grandson’s brain surgery. Michelle Murphy says her grandson’s brain is growing too large and now he has to have surgery to relieve pressure off his spine. To raise cash for 12-year-old Aaron McCoy, supporters danced for a Zumbathon at Snider Farm Barn Sunday afternoon. Murphy says the fundraiser is to help with co-pays and other fees. “His mom is not working now because he is not going to school so they’re down to one income,” Murphy said. “So this is to help the family as well.” In the last few months, Murphy says she’s raised $1,000. Her grandson’s surgery is June 27.
