DOWNTOWN JACKSON — A pair claiming to be “sovereign citizens” refused their right to an attorney during their preliminary hearing, Thursday morning. The self proclaimed “Sovereign Citizens” Dustin Rodondich and Xylie Eschleman told the judge they wanted to represent themselves because they did not believe their court appointed attorney understands the law. Rodondich and Eschleman were arrested on May 13 for resisting arrest. Police say the VIN number on the vehicle was blocked out, which raised suspicion the car could be stolen. The license plate on the car was replaced with a paper that read: “Non Resident 6-55-502. Privilege tax on nonresidents prohibited. Lienholder (my chattel).” After hearing both Rodondich and Eschleman testify, the judge sent the case to the grand jury. Both remain jailed in lieu of bond.
