Police Credit Crime Stoppers Tip For Attempted Robbery Arrest

JACKSON, Tenn. — Police are thanking the public after an arrest comes just days after an attempted robbery. Quentin Collier, 19, was arrested Wednesday after police got a tip via Crime Stoppers, a local organization focused on increasing community safety. On Sunday around 1:30 p.m, police say a 71-year-old Beech Bluff man was pumping gas when he was approached from behind by Collier who attempted to take his wallet from his back pocket. The victim reacted in self-defense, removed the gas nozzle from his car and sprayed Collier with gasoline. Collier then ran away toward Gordon Street. A surveillance photo taken from inside the BP before the attempted robbery depicted Collier with dreadlocks and a goatee, but when he was arrested, officers say Collier was wearing glasses, had cut his dread-locks and had shaved his goatee. Collier is being held at the Madison County Jail. He is scheduled to be arraigned on Friday in Jackson City Court for attempted robbery.
