Drivers Seeing More Traffic for Memorial Weekend

MIDTOWN — West Tennesseans were gassing up their tanks and hitting the road for the holidays Saturday. Memorial Day weekend is usually the start of the summer travel season, a time where thousands of drivers will be constantly driving up and down the country’s highways. The Tennessee Highway Patrol and local law enforcement are stepping up their patrols throughout the holiday weekend. We caught up with a couple of drivers who say they’ve seen a surge in traffic since Friday. “Well there was a lot more traffic on the road seem like it was a lot more through traffic,” William Johnson said, a frequent traveler. “Family reunions going on this coming weekend, and not only family reunions also class reunions so that brings in a lot of people into our city,” Arsinia Douglas said, a local resident. Officers say they will be looking for impaired drivers this weekend, along with proper seat belt and child restraint use.
