SOUTH JACKSON — As you get ready to fire up the grill for Memorial Day firefighters say use extreme caution. The Jackson Fire Department gave a few tips about grilling safety Saturday. They say propane and charcoal grills should only be used outdoors and should be placed away from your house. Keep children and pets at least three feet from the grilling area and only use charcoal starter fluid. Officials say so far they haven’t seen any grill related fires. “Well the Jackson Fire Department do want everyone to be safe out grilling and taking advantage of this beautiful weekend, but we want everyone to be safe while doing it,” Rico Bryson said, JFD Public Education Coordinator. Firefighters say to keep your grill away from trees or hanging leaves; and when you’re done cooking let your coals cool down and throw them away in a metal container.
