WEST JACKSON — A local cemetery honors our fallen heroes in honor of the Memorial holiday. The 17th annual memorial day celebration was held at the Hollywood Cemetery on Hollywood Drive. The VFW color guard played patriotic music while singers paid homage to veterans. Vice mayor of Jackson and councilwoman Dr. Vicky Foote were the guest speakers. Don Thomson, President of the Hollywood Cemetery Association, says it’s a time to honor those that fought for our country. “People like myself I’m a veteran and many of these other gentlemen are, we are the lucky ones,” Thomson said. “Because we came home but those people that make the ultimate sacrifice, that’s who we’re recognizing today.” The cemetery was lined with flags donated from the Jackson Exchange Club; and small flags were placed on the graves of fallen veterans.
