Local Baseball Legends Honored
NORTH JACKSON — Little league baseball players got to meet legendary African American men who paved the way for their game Sunday. The Society for African American Cultural Awareness paid homage to the Negro League baseball legends Saturday and Sunday. One of the men, Ira McKnight, stopped by the Northside High School to give advice to the Jackson Police Little League team before they hit the field Sunday. McKnight, a Trenton native, says he played for the Kansas Monarchs and other famous teams. “It’s an honor cause I haven’t been in this area since high school,” McKnight said. “We used to play [Jackson Central] Merry High in Jackson, Humboldt, so it’s like a second home you know.” Some of the other legends that were honored include Tommy Taylor, Larry Legrande, Reggie Howard and Bill Little
