Juror Dismissed During Day 2 of David Woolfork Trial

DOWNTOWN JACKSON — Testimony began in the criminal trial for former Madison County sheriff David Woolfork on Wednesday morning. One of the big issues is a possible harassment claim against the victim in this case, Deputy Sharon Sangster. The judge decided not to allow that claim to be brought up in court. Also on Wednesday, one of the members of the jury showed up late. She told the judge she needed to see a doctor because of a medical issue. The judge dismissed her. There are now 14 jury members, with two of them as alternates. In opening arguments, the prosecution discussed the affair between Woolfork and Sangster. The prosecution said Woolfork was drinking and smelled like alcohol the night of the alleged attack. In opening arguments, Woolfork’s attorney mentioned text messages between Sangster and the former sheriff that say she invited him to her house. The state will present its case first.
