UPDATE — The domestic assault charge former Madison County sheriff David Woolfork faced has been thrown out due to a legal continuity issue. He is now only facing an Attempted Aggravated Sexual Battery charge. DOWNTOWN JACKSON — The defense rested its case on Thursday afternoon in the criminal trial of former Madison County sheriff David Woolfork. The jury will return to court at 3:30 p.m. to hear closing arguments before they are charged. Specially appointed Judge Paul Summers said the jury will deliberate for as long as it takes for them to reach a verdict. During the testimony for the defense, neighbors of Deputy Sharon Sangster were called to the stand. One neighbor said on Oct. 10, 2013, the night of the alleged attack, she witnessed Sangster and Woolfork outside of her home arguing, but did not see any physical confrontation. Another neighbor testified that she witnessed Frankie Lax drive up to Sangster’s home sometime between Oct. 10 and before Sangster settled with Madison County. The neighbor said Lax placed a white envelope in Sangster’s mailbox, and a few minutes later, Sansgter went to the mailbox to retrieve it. WBBJ will have continuing coverage on the trial.
