Woolfork Scandal Not Over, Sex Tapes Center of Controversy

DOWNTOWN JACKSON — Even after a not guilty verdict for former Madison County Sheriff David Woolfork, the scandal may not be over. Woolfork said he wants Deputy Sharon Sangster and Madison County Constable Frankie Lax investigated after sex tapes featuring him and Sangster surfaced. The law in part said it is an offense for a person to knowingly photograph an individual when the individual has a reasonable expectation of privacy without the consent of the individual. The photograph also has to offend or embarrass an ordinary person. Violating this law is a misdemeanor, but if it the video is shared or allowed to be shared, it is a felony. During Woolfork’s criminal trial, Sangster testified she made the recordings without his knowledge and claimed it was protection if Woolfork ever denied their affair. Woolfork’s attorney, Mark Donahoe, said the fact Sangster shared the private videos with Lax makes both of them legally liable. “Frankie Lax – under questioning – also said he obtained the tape from [Sangster],” Donahoe said. “[Lax] downloaded it from her camera to a CD and he admitted on the stand that he showed it to two other people, one of them being Jimmy Wallace [and the other] Leigh Grinalds.” Wallace is a prominent republican leader and Grinalds is a former federal prosecutor who considered a run for Madison County sheriff. Woolfork said he believes the tapes were shared at his expense. “I think Mr. Lax thought it was funny,” Woolfork said. “[He] thought it was a joke and just wanted to take them around and show them.” Donahoe said during this week’s trial, he laid out all the evidence needed to prove a crime, and it’s up to the authorities to do their jobs. Woolfork said he just wants the law to run its course. “I hope they will investigate that just as aggressively as they investigated my case,” Woolfork said. Capt. Tyrecce Miller said Jackson Police has not received a request for an investigation, but if the chief of police thought there was a conflict of interest, he would request another agency to conduct an investigation. District Attorney General Jerry Woodall also said his office has not received a request for an investigation. Constable Lax was unavailable for comment Friday due to a medical procedure. Sangster said she wanted to talk more with her attorney before making a comment.
