Obion Co. Coach Accused of Verbally Abusing Players

OBION CO., Tenn.- An Obion County coach is under fire after a parent claims the long time coach verbally abused his players. The Obion County Director of Schools, Russ Davis, told WBBJ 7 Eyewitness News the school board asked him to investigate the South Fulton High School girls softball and basketball coach, Curt Lee. “We’re disappointed these type of allegations are brought forth, but we are committed to looking into it and moving forward,” Davis said. Davis said the parent, who’s daughter played for Coach Lee, voiced his concern at this Monday’s school board meeting, claiming the behavior has lasted years. The Director of Schools said he planned a sit down meeting with the coach and principal of South Fulton High later this week. “The teacher has not been afforded the opportunity to defend himself to speak on their behalf,” Davis said. Coach Lee has been with the school system for 18 years, and school officials told WBBJ 7 Eyewiness News he has no prior complaints on his record. Davis also said since Monday’s school board meeting, no other parents have come forward with complaints. According to the school board, Coach Lee has taken the Lady Red Devils to several appearances at District and State championships. WBBJ 7 Eyewitness News reached out to the coach but did not receive a call back..
