JACKSON, Tenn. — An officer involved shooting is under investigation after a man almost struck a Jackson Police Officer with his car Sunday morning in south Jackson. Police say shortly after 7 a.m., officers received a call from Snappy Mart, at 2016 S. Highland Avenue. An employee of the business called police about a man acting suspiciously on the parking lot. While talking with the man, who was sitting in the drivers seat of a Ford Fusion, officers suspected he was under the influence of a controlled substance. The officer attempted to get the man to step out of the car. The man then accelerated and nearly pinned the officer between the Fusion and the gas pump. Police said the officer who was nearly pinned then pulled his service weapon and fired at least one time striking the car. The driver continued to drive away and led officers on a pursuit. The man eventually crashed at the dead end of S. Dixie Lane. The man was taken into custody and transported by officers to Jackson-Madison County General Hospital to be checked out. The man, who is a 37-year-old Adamsville resident, was medically cleared from the hospital and then transported to the Madison County Jail. His name is being withheld pending formal charges. Jackson Police say they are investigating the shooting to ensure it was in compliance with the law and department policy. The officers involved will be placed on routine, paid administrative leave, and their names are being withheld pending the outcome of the investigation.
