OBION COUNTY, Tenn. — Residents affected by the tornado in Obion County spent much of Sunday cleaning up the roads with trees in the way of vehicles trying pass through. Then they began to clean up and repair their homes. Some are afraid they will have to completely rebuild. “The pictures started falling off the wall and we heard a rumble on the roof a bit. It wasn’t really all that loud other than wind, and that was about the time that the roof left,” Hank Keeling said. Keeling and his wife are picking up the pieces after the EF1 tornado touched down by their home. The roof and front porch are gone, and debris all over their yard. “All these trees in the back yard, it uprooted them and the roots pulled out from under the ground and the ground just kind of sunk,” Keeling said. Hazel Brown is another resident amazed the tornado didn’t hit her home or meat business after she heard it coming toward her. “It roared.. it never stopped until it passed over. Everything started flying in on us,” Brown said. Tin from the carport and business were spread across their yard Saturday afternoon. Her husband says it’s hard to describe the moment the tornado blew through. “When you hear those things roaring, I’ve heard that all my life, but I heard it first hand and you know, it’s severe,” J.T. Brown said. Residents explained the most amazing part is how quickly all the damage was done. “It didn’t last very long. It was here and gone before we knew what was happening,” Keeling said. The Keelings say on Monday, they’ll be talking to the insurance company to assess the damage and see where to go from here. Emergency officials say there were no injuries reported in any of the weekend’s severe weather.
