Counties estimate property damage after weekend storms

JACKSON, Tenn. — The cleanup has begun after last weekend’s storms tore through West Tennessee. Obion County, who was hit by an EF1 tornado on Saturday, is facing $100,000-$175,000 in property damage, according to EMA director Danny Jowers. Jowers said the county is looking at between $20,000-$30,000 in government costs. Most of the debris has been cleared in the area. Janice Newman, Carroll County EMA director, is estimating $150,000 in damages, but says the county is still accumulating reports, so this is just a rough estimate. Madison County EMA director Marty Clements says there was not enough damage from the storms to do a formal estimate at this time. The main concerns are downed tree limbs and trees in the area.
