Five suspects sought in beating death of Jackson man

Jackson police are investigating the Sunday night beating death of Rico Swift. Around 9:35 p.m., police were called to an apartment building at 500 First Street. Swift, 31, was found unresponsive inside his apartment. He was transported by ambulance to Jackson-Madison County General Hospital and pronounced dead. The preliminary investigation has shown that Swift and his girlfriend were inside his apartment. There was a knock at the door and two men were allowed inside. Approximately three other men then followed behind the first two men. Once inside, the suspects began beating Swift and the woman while making demands. The woman was knocked unconscious. The suspects then took property and left. Investigators developed information that Swift sold illegal drugs from his apartment, and he was likely targeted for money, drugs or both. All five suspects were black men. A more particular description was only available for two of the men. One suspect was bald, in his 20s, approximately 5 feet 6 inches tall with a stocky build. The second suspect had dread-lock style hair, in his 20s, approximately 5 feet 10 inches tall with a skinny build.
